Black Cherry Tomato.

  • Black Cherry Tomato.

    First year growing this variety so a simple question.

    How 'black' do these tomatoes get, mine are now a very deep purple and feel soft when I squeeze them, are they ready to eat?

    Never grown them Potty but, if it feels right, eat it! - or at the very least try it - then you'll know for the next one

      they eat ready well before they go really dark, so eat whenyou feel like they will split if left to get completely ripe.

          You could make a Black Forest Gateaux With prawn cocktail to start - but I can't remember what the middle course would have been in the ?60s. Coq au vin perhaps?

              I prefer mine while they still look a bit green in with the dark colour.
              My fav salad tomato

              mine are a darker colour than yours Jelliebabe....................

                  I'm growing those for the first time this year and like you I thought they would have to go black before I could eat them, but they felt sort of eatable so i tried one and they're ever so juicy and sweet.
                  Location....East Midlands.

                    Tried one on its own today, not as sweet as Sungold but loads of tomato bite, certainly be growing this one again.

                      My first year for these too, but they are still green. They're the ones that started off in the rubbish compost and I thought they wouldn't make it. Glad to hear they're tasty.

                        Just ordered some of these seeds...never grown them before.

                        Peter Pepper,Moruga Scorpion,Habanero,Bhut Jolokia(yellow),Numex Twilight,Purple Jalapeno,Big Jim,Papri Paprika,Thai Hybrid,Esplendor,Sweet mini bell pepper and Patio fire chilli...

                          Like I posted earlier in the thread they do taste nice and sweet plus they seemed to keep fairly well, we finished the last ones off on Christmas day.

                            I grew these last year for the first time, under cover.

                            Very impressed, one of the best flavoured cherries I've had to date, and the plant was quite tolerant when my watering became a bit irregular for a couple of weeks. Only extremes of dry and wet caused any splitting. Like earlier posts have stated, its black in name only, ripe fruits are a deep maroon / brown colour.

                            Highly recommended! I'm growing it again this year.

                              I don't like them....much......the colour is wrong! IMHO. They taste fine but they don't feel right!

                              I won't be growing them again........for now.
