  • Best tomato for next year

I grow Sungold each year and I eat them like sweets. The flavour is superb. Last year I also grew Maskotka. This year I have Tumbling Tom. All are grown outdoors, the Sungold in the ground, the bush ones in pots.

The bush toms taste nowhere as good as the Sungold. Are there bush and other vine tomatoes that are as good? I'm thinking of not bothering with the bush toms next year, and just growing more chillis in their pots.

I like Black Cherry they're very sweet and juicy plus they usually get eaten before they make it to the house.
    Location....East Midlands.

it is not a matter of bush or vine tomatoes it is a matter of the fruit colour, shape and use. sun gold is small sweet cherry tomato type. there are paste, large slicer types and many other variations. to answer you question we need to know what plan using the tomato for.

I like sungold (the best IMHO and I have loads which we use for salads), and brandywine for toasted cheese and tomato

I will be planting several sungold again nexct year, plus a few brandywine .... I will also be trying Park's Nectar (which apparantly is very sweet), aswell as sweet aparetif .... Thompson & Morgan state that if you dont think that sweet aperitif is the sweetest tomato, they will give your money back: (check the link below:

I'm growing Sungold, Tumbler, Red Pear and Gardener's delight this year. So far only Sungold and Tumbler have ripened. I know i'm going against the grain here, but i find the Tumblers nicer than the Sungold, which i find too sweet. And the Tumblers cropped far earlier and heavier - I'll definitely be growing them again next year!

This one is gorgeous Tomato Seed 'Golden Sunrise' (Heritage Cordon Tomato) if you like sweet and juicy that is.

People confuse Tumbler with Tumbling Tom which I have grown but will not grow again.

I grow Tumbler every year to compliment my Sungold for salads along with Black Cherry for use with mature cheddar on toast. This year my new tom was Sweet Aperitif and yes its as sweet as Sungold and very prolific.

Well, obviously everybody's taste buds are different, but I like red alert. It is very sweet and is a bush variety.

I've no idea what it is, but a self seed orange medium sized cherry in my GH is amazing.

Other than that, one massive beast that I lost the labels for from BM have taken over my GH. Massive juicy beggars. Will save seed and grow them again

I take it we are talking strictly cherry tomatoes here?

I don't have as much experience growing tomatoes as many of the folks do here, but I would recommend sweet million. Really sweet and tasty and many times more so than my other cherry toms I am growing, tumbling tom and sun baby.

Oh and the crop is absolutely prolific. You get about 3 or 4 vines growing per truss and about 24 toms per vine.

The only problem is you end up having more tomatoes than you can manage to eat.

Not necessarily - mine weren't anyway which is why I mentioned them - yellow and medium size.
