  • Best onions to grow from seed

Basically i was going to sow my onions from seed, went to do it low and behold i have none (or more accurately i do i just cant find the 'safe place' i stored them) So im off to purchase some tomorrow. Now i want something that tastes really good but also something that get really big as i like the idea of having a couple i tend and see if they will qualify for the biggest onion contest at the lottie this year. So is there any suggestions from you guys

Kelsae if you can still get them. They were pretty scarce earlier this year

I grow Ailsa Craig, Kamal and Sweet Spanish Yellow, we like all of them . My seed packets say to start Ailsa Craig any time from January, and the others any time from February (although I expect that people sow all types from January onwards). The sooner the better with Onion seed IMO.

Bedfordshire Champion and Ailsa Craig ,are pretty good size wise. Give them a feed of potash or phostrogen when Established outside and they romp away!
