| I've been growing Early Nantes for early carrots and have planted some Autumn King for late carrots (thanks Hazel). We're trying to get a thread going for recommendations of this kind so that all the information can be in one place. Maybe you have a suggestion about that.

| I grow Amsterdam Forcing II in windowbox troughs at greenhouse staging height, to avoid the dreaded carrot fly! I am a huge fan of this variety, which is a true 'finger carrot' size, and superbly sweet, for a very early crop. Sow mid-Feb and you'll be harvesting end of June. I apologise. Best LATE carrots, and I've just given you my best earliest! Thank goodness it's the weekend. But I don't differentiate. I grow baby sweet carrots all summer long, and the 'gluts' get frozen for the winter months.

| So,I guess I can just carry on with my Amsterdams then? They seem to be doing well so far, now that I've got the slugs to leave them alone. Really looking forward to the recommendations threads - cant add to it as yet, since I dont have the experience, but hopefully one day .... |

| Hello Sue, I'm trying 'Autumn King' too as i got a free packet from GYO. Usually I'd choose St. Valery (or new red intermediate) for a winter roaster (and showing) but you need good carrot growing soil or a dustbin etc. for the bigguns.

| Paul, I dont have good carrot growing soil, far too stony for any but the babies, but I was going to try some big uns in a bin - think I'll give autumn king a go, that seems to be the fav and easy to get hold of. I've already sowed another lot of Amsterdams but fancy trying some big roasters. Thanks all, all suggestions much appreciated and noted for next year! |

| I am also growing Early Nantes for now and Autumn King for my main crop as I also saw that they store well.

| It's a bit hot in mid-summer, but I start mine off in there until they are big enough not to be eaten in one go! If you keep them too warm, the foliage grows at the expense of the root, in my experience. I wouldn't grow them in a greenhouse bed, no. |
