    Beetroots bolted

    I sowed some beets at the end of April.They all germinated nicely and...that's it.They have about 3 true leaves each(even not big enough for salad),noticed a couple that started to go to seed.Should I pull them out and sow some more(if it's not too late) or leave them as they are?Can't see much action over there...

    Difficult to stop beetroot bolting in the middle of summer. Just keep resowing and you will get a crop eventually. Also use a bolt resistant variety like Boltardy ( not foolproof).

      hi - I would pull them out and plant out more seed. I'm fairly sure that once they bolt, they've had it....but maybe another grape can clarify for sure

        I've been sowing Boltardy...and not had a problem last year or this - happy growing

          I sowed some more beetroot 2 weeks ago"just in case".They are Morrisons seeds,can't remember the name(nothing fancy).They germinated very well.As for the 1st ones-I'm disappointed because I sowed 3 varieties-Detroit,Crimson King and Chioggia.Chioggia is running to seed already,the remaining 2 sit in the ground and do nothing-don't fancy growing at all.I was wondering if they were sown too early or is the soil not good enogh for them(sandy soil with compost added).Thanks for your help,I'll pull them out and sow the rest of the seeds then...

            I guess it's possible that they were confused by the late cold snap that we had - fooling them into thinking that they'd had a winter and then gone into the second year?
