  • Beetroot in cells

    Hi,

I have always grown beetroot by sowing direct into the ground.

I am toying with staring it in individual cells and then transplanting to see if I get any different results - any thoughts folks?

    Cheers,

PS - I have been a member since 2008 but had to register again with a different account after getting the following message when I tried to start a post:

'You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.'

    Can anyone help?

I have emailed the site admin but to no avail and I want my old account back!

Done this a few times, in fact I planted some of the beets that were grown in cells today.

Always find beetroot one of the easiest to transplant. Never had any problems and have never lost any.

What was your previous User name?
Did you remember your old password? Sometimes that can cause problems.

I've both sown in modules and direct. I've found more success in modules (marginally) I think because my clay soil develops a crust very easily and so the direct sown seeds (of any sort) struggle to get through. Also it means its easier to space the plants which means I get more even sized beetroot.

I also do both and the same a Cadalot prefer modules. I often have them waiting in the wings to fill in spaces that come available.

Right, I'm on the case for starting some off in modules this weekend. I've been pondering the same issue. So thanks for starting the thread, Frana.

Forgot to say, I use vending machine cups with two holes melted in the bottom with the trusty soldering iron. They can be picked up as 100 or 80 for a £1 from most £1 shops and I wash them and re use them. They stand in a module tray and water is added to the seed tray without holes by lifting one out adding water until it shows in another module at the other side of the tray, then I pop the plants back in.
