    Silly question......

Mr Fothergills have climbing beans and dwarf beans but my book has french beans and runner beans

Are they the same ? Which is which ?

With French Beans, you can get climbing varieties or bush varieties.

Last year I grew dwarf french bush type, easier for my slugs you understand. This year I grew a climbing variety which gave a longer pod but an extremely nice flavour.

Depends on how you want to grow them.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

        Beans

French beans can be climbing or dwarf but the climbing ones are a lot easier to pick - no bending over.

Just to add to the fun, some french beans are a round pod, some flat. Have a look at Marshalls or Franchi online and you will see the wide range available [URL="http://www.seedsofitaly.com/catalogue/9"].

yeah climbing and dwarf are both french beans, i planted dwarf expecting the pods to be smaller lol (novice here) but they arent, it just means that the plants only grow to a certain height, the climbing ones just keep going lol, if you have something for them to climb up.

          have fun

Just to add to the confusion, I believe runner beans can also be either climbing or dwarf.

In my book, if it's got a flat pod it's a runner bean, if it's got a round pod it's a french bean. I don't know if that's accurate, it's just my way of looking at it!!
