  • Bean trenches and chicken poo

So I've read about making compost trenches for beans and thought I'd be able to do something similar with the scrapings from the lawn where the chicken run is. This comprises lots of chicken poo, the newspaper from under the roosting bars and some stomped down grass and moss, maybe a bit of chicken pellets too.

I dug a deep trench, filled it with this stuff and then have covered it over to rot down. Do you think this will work (ie not be too strong for beans) coz I'd like to do another one but not if you think the idea is a no-no.
    Cheers

I did it last year for peas and it worked ok. I think as long as you dig the trench deep so the poo etc is really well buried, then it should be ok. I think the idea is to keep the moisture in the trench as much as possible. Hopefully someone with lots more experience than me will correct me if I'm wrong
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Good question!!and if T-lady doesn't mind me adding a further question...would it be O.K to use as bottom layer of lasagne stylie bed intended for courgettes?
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

When we kept chickens we used their poo a lot on the veg beds and pots.
We even used to make a liquid feed from the chicken poo.

However it is very acidic so we used a lot of lime to bring the acid levels down.
