  • Baby cucumbers - yellowing and rotting

For several weeks now all my baby cucumbers on the plant have been turning yellow, rotting and eventually falling off. It starts with yellowing near the stem, and gradually the yellowing spreads to the rest of the fruit. In the end it turns a yellowish-brownish colour. (see pictures attached). The rest of the plant is looking healthy and lush with blooming flowers.

Does anyone recognise this problem? Can anyone identify this condition/illness?? Thanks!

P.S. My cucumber plants are "all female".

    Hi Anita

I tend to find that cucumbers turn yellow when there is a strain on the plant, and to many cucumbers on it. I do train mine a differnt way, as I train up 4 shoots and grow the cucumbers on them, taking most of the ones off the stem and i do get good results. I think this is because the whole plant is bigger.
Yours obviously have not got large cucumbers yet, so for a start I would take quite a few of the the stem to give the others a chance.
You could then maybe try my system, you have nothing to lose. But it obviously take up more space.
My blog cucumber section will give you a better Idea. Your plants do look nice and healthy otherwise.
Also it is best to cut off any cucumbers as soon as you see them starting to turn yellow.

    Good luck.
