Aubergine root rot or blight???

    Aubergine root rot or blight???

    One of my aubergines is seriously wilting and the flowers are drooping although it is still producing new top growth. On closer inspection some of the leaves have got small brown spots on them near the edge (will try and put a pic on later if I can). I am thinking I have either overwatered it and root rot has set in or could it be blight?

    If it is root rot, is it likely to recover if I don't water it for a while? I have given the plant a bit of a tug but it still seems to be in the soil quite firmly.
    If it's blight I need to remove it asap as I have lots of toms nearby.

    Please can someone advise?

    Never heard of aubergines suffering from blight, but I suppose they could. It's usually tomatoes and potatoes that are affected. Where is it growing?

      They are a solanum, so I'd imagine they'd be susceptible to a lot of the same diseases.

        I was suprised too about this but found out whilst doing a search on the internet, apparently peppers can suffer too. It's in a long tom pot and gets the sun from midday onwards. I have 5 others (different varieties from this one) and they all seem to be doing well. I've had a furtle in the soil to check moisture levels but it doesn't seem to be overly wet.

          not blight SR but possibly wilt... (see your t'other thread), most probably from tomato soil.... Not the end of the world but if not too difficult I think I'd be inclined to separate the poorly one (which may still produce some crop) from the other 5 so they don't get the wrong idea or play copy-cat! bb.

            Hi bb thanks for your reply. As this one is in a container it had fresh compost put in this year. Will leave it in there for a bit longer and see what happens.

              This sounds exactly like what happened to one of my aubs earlier in the year. unfortunately it did perish but the others are fine - even the ones in the same pot!
              If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

                The way mine looks at the moment, I don't think it's going to last but will give it a few days and then it's going to be binned
