    Aubergine being eaten!

    Hello All

    Can anyone tell me what little bug(ger)s are partial to aubergines. I went on hols last week and when I came back the 2 bottom leaves had been completely eaten and nibbles to the rest of all my aubergine plants. I cant see any bugs or slimey snail trails. They are in the greenhouse along with toms and peppers etc and they all seem OK.

    Are you sure its not slugs or snails? Could you post a photo?

      They will be slugs or snails. They don't always leave slime trails. Check under all your pots, nooks & crannies etc

        She's right you know. When you find them (and you will) see how far you can throw the snails and cut the slugs in half, I do!

          I tend to throw snails at a hard surface if I can't crush them in my hands, slugs the same if i don't have a knife/pair of scissors to hand.

          you could try a slug trap in the GH, though that'll attract more no doubt.

          Or, going for some organic slug pellets (they're not expensive) and put a couple of pellets in the pot?

          I have pea gravel in my greenhouse - it's kind of covered in a powdery finish.. despite washing it down a few times, this powder stuff is still there - and I've noticed any slugs that do make it into the GH get covered in this stuff and end up dead. I presume it sucks the moisture out of them and they suffocate. *shrug* Pretty cheap too, a cubic metre was £30 odd from wickes.

            Snails also make a very satisfying crunch when stamped on. Pretty good graphic description of the pea gravel as a weapon of destruction Chris.
