  • Asparagus spacing

Hi all im after some opinions on my potential asparagus bed. I have a 9x4 ft raised bed and im thinking of spacing them as follows. Does this seem ok?

18 inches between plants and 24 inches between rows, will give you room to weed when they get bigger.

Well I have been asking similar questions regarding how many I can fit in my 6ft x 3ft raised bed and it seems there is a confusing variety of advice regarding plant spacing for a complete novice like myself. This useful website British Asparagus suggests only 45cm (18in) between rows and 25cm (10 inches) between plants. Most others seem to suggest a bit more and BBC website says 30cm between both plants and rows.

I guess if you have plenty of space available then perhaps bigger spacing makes sense. I don't have much space so I think I am going to try and get 10 plants into mine unless I get convinced otherwise before the spring. Good luck!

I think it depends on how much access you need too. If you have a raised bed/edged bed you can access from all sides without standing on, they'll probably need a bit less room than if you need to walk along a row for example.
