  • Argos large walk in poly green house!

On Saturday I managed to purchase a large walk in poly green house, green frame and the plastic cover for a little over £30 in the sale from Argos!

With the kids being back at school I managed to build it this morning!

I'm very impressed with it considering it was only £30. I'm desperate for a real greenhouse but thought this would be excellent as a temporary measure while I find one that suits my needs and I can still use for extra space afterwards!

I'm quite impressed I manage to build this myself considering I am 5ft 2, I did build it upside down so I could put the cover in easily :-)

Make sure you anchor it well. They're not known as blowaways for no reason

I'm going to put some grow bags over the base poles, do you think that would be enough?

Do you find the door closes properly/easy. I got one of them a few years ago and when it was up I could not shut the door as it appeared the frame was too wide. It went back to the shop.

It zips up fine, there is a note in the box that says make sure all poles are fully inserted into the brackets so the cover will fit on this one, it took some bashing to get them in, and there were some extra brackets so I had to keep trying them to get one that would push in properly. I'm sure my hubby would have had a much easier job putting it together than I did!

Nope.. Once the wind gets in there, it'll be a kite.

I think it depends on how sheltered you are (and you look to be quite protected, looking at your pic) , but I would take no chances! How would you feel if the thing blew over when you had your seedling in there

So I would err on the side of caution and at the very least use slabs over the base poles to hold it down. Better still, if you put it on slabs you can drill a bracket down over the base pole and into the slabs.

Mine's screwed to the garage wall, but it's small than yours, so that wouldn't work for you.

To lessen the 'kite' effect, make sure the door is zipped down if it's all all windy.

All that caution aside, you've done a fine job putting it up, and I'm sure you'll love growing things in there.

Absolutely anchor it in all the ways you can, they are really handy things if you can get them to stay put. I had a multiple tier one a few years ago which lasted most of the season, it had bricks and slabs all along the bottom poles and it still managed to twist out of it, break the connectors and blow away, giving all of my tomato plants a free flying lesson I've come back for more punishment and now have a big one like yours from wilko which has 4 guy ropes (but sadly it has to go on concrete) it is tied tight against a fence with the ropes, slabs all around AND growbags weighing down the inside, the cover is a good few inches longer than the frame so i'm hoping it will help keep the wind out. I am still expecting it to take off later in the year somehow

Thank you DC, I'm well anchored down and in a sheltered corner so fingers crossed

maybe a few ropes over the top and anchored down with tent pegs....

Rope idea sounds good! Thank goodness this is only a temporary measure :-)
