Anything other than Garlic to now be planted out?

    Anything other than Garlic to now be planted out?

    Does anyone know if there is anything other than Garlic that will now grow, now that we are coming into the Autumn / Winter times.
    I planted out 75 garlic cloves at the weekend, so those are in and ready for frost for splitting, but curious if there is anything else out there that can still go in the ground?

    I put some Electric Red onion sets in last week, they have already started sprouting.

      I have planted shallots and broad beans in addition to garlic. I find the shallots give bigger bulbs if planted now.

        broad beans, any bare rooted fruit trees or bushes, rhubarb crowns, i've got some autumn sow asparagus on order - the bed they're going in is all ready for them

          As well as everything mentioned previously I am still planting Spring Cabbage, Kale and PSB as ground becomes available.
          It's a good time to be planting fruit bushes and I am layering and taking cuttings from my existing stock.

            I've still got Cavalo Nero kale seedlings waiting for a space. Just put in over-wintering onions a couple of weeks back.
            Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

                Early variety of peas and broad beans can go in but I prefer to leave them till Jan/Feb and even then I cloche them. Still planting spring cabbage and PSB. Onion sets now, shallots in Dec. Onion seeds sown 2nd week Dec, Leek seeds mid Jan. Always something to be thinking of.

                    Have bought some shallots to plant. They have cloves do I separate them same as garlic?

                      I got my Senshyus in about the same time. Already 1" - 2" growth showing. Last year I was late and had to buy Radar sets but am not falling for that one again. Love my Japanese onions though. My Reds and Whites will go in in the next few weeks.
                      Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

                      Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

                        Seperate them and push gently into soft earth that is in slight dips 4in (10cm) apart, with dip rows 9in (23cm) apart. The tip should be just showing. Firm around the sets.

                        If planting is delayed, open package and spread out sets in a cool well-lit place to prevent premature sprouting.

                        Plant onion sets 4in (10cm) apart in mid March-mid April. Shallots require wider (6in (15cm) apart) and earlier (mid February-mid March) planting.

                        Each seperate shallot bulb should produce up to a dozen individual bulbs in summer. - Lovely.
