  • Anyone pinch out tall peas?

I grow Hurst Greenshaft , The flowers don't seem to appear before the plants five feet! I've always feared pinching out lest I get no peas!
Anyone done this? does it then flower further down? It always looks a little ragged down there..

I pinch out my Telephone and Purple podded peas otherwise it gets a tangled mess and its difficult to pick the peas. Plus side is I'm sure it seem to make the peas bush out more lower down.
    Location....East Midlands.

      Cheers Bren
So they do grow lower down, are the pods the same size as without pinching ?

I also have a 60ltr pot of Kelvedon Wonder, which is a dwarf early except one is now 7ft tall and has climed to the top of my olive tree! The rest are normal, but I'm thinking of keeping some peas from it as it may be a mutation.

No, I prefer the peas higher up so I don't break my back bending down to pick. It's one of the main reasons I grow tall peas.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Is it a saved seed or from a packet? Would suspect it's not so much a mutation as an incorrectly packaged seed or rogue

It was from a packet. However it is flowering at the same time as all the others. Wouldn't a rogue seed say an alderman be slower growing and flower at a different time? What ever it is it shows the same traits as a Kelvedon Wonder but grows three times bigger. I'll report on the pod and pea comparison when I get some peas!

I can't remember who but someone else posted about having tall KW's so maybe it is something in the seed or someone was having a laugh during packaging.
