Anyone ever trained cucumbers downwards / in containers?

    Anyone ever trained cucumbers downwards / in containers?

    Hi all,

    Been pottering around in the garden, and have a wall where the earth in front simply won't entertain anything, so I struggle to grow up the wall.

    However, I came up with the idea of popping a container on top, and growing a trailing plant in it, and down the wall.

    Thought I might try little outdoor cucumbers. Would make an interesting feature, and an edible one too.

    Anyone ever grown them in containers, or hung them down to grow?

    I grow all my cumbers both indoor and outdoor in containers have done for years. I have always trained in an upward direction but can see no reason not to train downwards providing support is supplied.

    One point if you are going to grow in containers could you not just stand them on the barren patch?

      I'd echo that post word for word, although this is my first year having done so. The advice i've got is that it's not a problem providing they're given enough water which cucumbers need at the best of times, let alone in pots.

      I see no reason why they shouldn't be trained any which way, although i've put a wigwagm in place as i think they look attractive and to stop anything interferring with it
