  • Anyone else had their peaceful gardening bliss ruined ?

Just walking back from the plot and an enormous Military plane flew really low straight over my allotment.
Happens all the time up here but this one was pretty low.
Managed to get the camera out in time and did a vid below.
    Total pain they are !!

Please have a look at my Veg Growing Diary.

Not had a military plane as such although I know they are a regular sight especially threading through the hills and valleys of the north - more common I thought in Cumbria. Last year I was watering the lettuce at the top of our garden when the Red Arrows came over (we are on East Mids flight path) but I have never seen them before or since. Boy do they come and go before you know it. You hear them first. All my family heard them but didn't see them - they should garden with me! My other half was most envious and seriously cheesed orf. Just in case any of the lads garden as well as perform in air acrobatics, I would love it if you would drop by again.

Wow, that would probably scare me to death seeing that coming at me!!
We used to get jets flying over really low when i was a kid, so quick and loud they used to make me hit the deck!!

Now we have the occassional helicopter hovering over the back garden in the early hours.

Nice bit of the country in your video, i'm loving that wall!
we just have concrete and bricks round here!

I'd gladly swop a low flying plane for the near neighbour who lights a bonfire on evenings throughout the summer to burn his grass cuttings

I keep telling you not to wear your mankini.....what do you expect?????

We have jet fighters flying over our place from time to time- and strangely about 3 weeks ago one lower than that...you could clearly make out the pilot!!
(Low flying over undulating land prior to going to Libya perhaps???)

Don't think the farmers were very happy about it just before lambing/calving !

How on earth can you burn grass clippings? They're damp! (exactly, you're thinking). What a muppet. Send him a note asking for his clippings for your compost heap

My plot is under the flightpath for Aberdeen Airport and to be honest, I've managed to tune out the normal commercial flights. There is also a busy heliport for the North sea oil industry and they are a pain. Worst of all are the military planes that come by every so often. We are told that Aberdeen Airport main runway is the only one that lies exactly north to south and the military planes use it to calibrate their compasses and in doing so do a touch and go. Wheels only momentarily on the runway and then take off again using huge thrust with huge noise. Sometimes wish I had a stock of sams in my polytunnel.

WOW! What a beautiful setting - I'm envious! T'was large, and loud though!

We have a couple of flying enthusiasts nearby, about a mile as the crow flies. They have Microlite Aircraft, and in recent years have upgraded from the 'Kite-on-a-bucket' type to the large brightly-coloured Byplane type. On a warm sunny day, they buzz around, presumably catching thermals and having fun. However, they are SOOOOOO LOOOOOUD when they are overhead, that you cannot have a conversation with the person next to you. One day last year, they came so low over our garden that I'm afraid they got the better part of my opinion, loudly, (along with plenty of arm gestures) and they left. Haven't seen them out this year, but it won't be long.

We also have a Gliding club in the same area, but they're no noise problem at all!

                        Throw him a knuckle bone!
I have the village interbred know it all next to my plot but my iPod has solved the problem! He stands telling all the women allotmenteers how to do stuff. The other day though I think he paid me a compliment - told me we had totally changed the landscape of our (once tatty) allotment. He told me the broad beans looked good too. He's not having any though...grrrr!

                          Pigeons and Magpies....

I really hope they go ahead with the culling on Magpies at least, we have 5 nests in our conifer and every year the magpies take every single chick. That combined with their ruddy noise winds me up no end.

I live right next to an airfield that has shows on all the time - I spend half the summer watching WWII fighters and bombers going overhead, I love it!

One over the road to us - if it barks, i'll whistle or bark back until it's really worked up. It's owners then come out and shut it up/take iti in. dunno why they can't do it when it barks normally.
