Any moon planting grapes about?

I do it, in theory you plant root crops on a waning moon and leaf crops on a waxing one. The French are very keen on it and all the gardening mags talk about it. Wether it makes any difference I don't know but I find it a good way of getting things in at the right time. So seeds are organized into months of planting and the dates they should be planted and I seem to avoid huge gluts and quite a good succession of crops. There is a thread somewhere on here about it.

I don't belive in any religion, ghosts, fairies, fortune telling, tarot cards or black magic. So lunar planting doesn't feature too highly on my agenda.

I do believe its based on factual discoveries rather than religious or other myths?

If the tides are governed by the moons pull any other water source, even down to molecular level, on earth will be governed by that same pull. This gravitational pull is what the whole ethos of moon planting is based upon from what I can gather.

I can't be arrised with it myself but recognise that for some people it probably works.

Sorry Bill, I've just re-read my post and it sounds patronising. It wasn't meant to be.

Let's not start discussing whether moon planting is lunacy or not. We've been down that road so many times

Can we just stick to our experiences of trying it and useful information for NG to explore, please.

I would never plant on a full moon, too busy growing hair and howling at the moon.
Those long claws make fine dibbers however, and a quick dig in the veg bed is relaxing.

I tried it a few years back, bought the book & Calendar (you need a different Calendar for the year due to different moon phases) for that year but found it a little complicated. Good luck NG and let us know how you get on.

It's not confusing if you can get your head around the waxing/waning moon segments & the different types of plants that can be sown, I can't remember off the top of my head but I think they are Leaf, Flower, Roots & Fruit. This is the one I got when I tried it:

This is a site I used to look at Guide to planting by the moon - The Gardeners Calendar
It was a good daily reminder but a bit confusing as you need to know which of the 3 versions of moon planting you are following.
