  • Another yellowing tom

Well, here I go again with another seemingly healthy tom that is starting to get pale yellowing stems where flowers and fruit fall off easily. This sungold has produced a few ripe fruits but now this is happening (just like it did with my tumbling tom which was purchased very small from a reputable nursery)

Any ideas as to what has happened please ?

This happened to me, with my yellow pear! And then all the branches ended up brown and the plant dead. No warning or funny marks on leaves etc, the branches just died and the tomatoes fell off

Why did you cut off the main stem?

Brown stems and tomatoes dropping off can be Fusarium wilt.

It could be either of the wilts (fusarium or verticulum) or grey mould. The wilts are encouraged by growing in the same ground for a number of years and the leaves usually die back as well as the fruit trusses. The picture shows only one fruit left on the truss so could it be that the truss has effectively done its job and the plant is coming to the end of its usefulness?

I cut the main stem because I read it was a good idea when the plant reached the top of the greenhouse as well as stopping energy goug to top flowers late in the season that would never fruit. Only had bout 3 fruits so far and the plant is in new growbag compost.

There's another thread about whether or not to stop tomatoes http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1476722

How many trusses have there been on your plant Marb? Any more flowers?
