  • Another cucumber question??

i have cuces and toms in the greenhouse, going great guns, i cant remember the name of the cuces as i threw away the packet (oops!!) anyway, they are all female variety and i would like to know are they just for inside or can they go out as they are trailing everywhere!!!!

also, as they are on the ground and may not get as much sun as the other stuff. Also, they have loads of cuces on them, do i ever pinch out the tops, just like the toms, so that they dont grow anymore as they are going mad and i will have about 500 cuces if i let them keep going at this rate.

    thanks every so x

ps. my cuces as spiky, if this helps!! i am sure they are ridgeless, does this help with the diagnosis of whether they are indoor or outdoor variety??

my cue's are spikey too, i think that outdoor variety are spikier than indoor. I was told to pinch the plant out once it has formed 5 true full leaves so you might want to pinch yours out.

they'll prob be fine outside if they are as big as you say. I only pinch out the ones in the greenhouse when there's no more room, otherwise, for the outdoor ones, just leave them to go on and on and on...surely if you pinch out after 5 leaves you won't get many cucumbers? It may of course encourage it to branch and you'll get several tips to your vine.

          thanks peeps,

i am gonna move them outside as i cant walk on the floor in the greenhouse lol!! - they are in troughs, i think they are defo outdoor ones like marketmore as i looked at some pics on the web and they look just like mine!

at least i will be able to move in the greenhouse now and harvest my lovely toms without breaking my neck lol!

          thanks

SS - I thought the all-female varieties were all greenhouse cues? Could be wrong though, as these plants have me very confused mostly...

Girl47 - yours might just be a bit behind? When did you sow them, and how big are the plants? Mine started producing female flowers after the vines were around 2 feet long, and started fruiting a couple of weeks after that. I've only had 3 so far (off 3 plants) so I'm hoping this is just the beginning
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

Mine is in greenhouse and so about 15 ft long, havnt pinched it out at all and justlet it keep on going around the top of the greenhouse. All I do is tie it to the frame when it starts to drop down. Have had 6 cues so far and another 2 nearly ready. Cant see any others forming just yet.
