I have been making a spread sheet of my seeds and planting date and I find that some of my pea seeds have a sow by date of June 2009. Does anyone think it is worth using these seeds or should I buy some new seeds. I dont want to waste my time planting if they are not going to grow.

I've move your post to Vegging Out - but I should think they will be fine. The best way to find out is, after the sow by date is over, try sprouting a few in kitchen roll.

parsnips (and something else i cant remember) are notoriously bad at germinating unless theyre fresh, other than that ive sown seeds that are a good few years out of date but as Andrea says give em a try on damp kitchen paperThe love of gardening is a seed once sown never dies ...Comment

do a germination test.put 10 seeds on damp kitchen paper put in some where warm and keep it moist if 5 seeds germinate this means that only 50% of the seeds will germinate

I would not hesitate to use them but as other people say do a germination if you are worried .
I have used a lot older seed than they are..
