  • Advice about onions

I bought some onions to plant late autumn. Then, due to events out of my control (two grandchildren born) bad weather etc, I could go on and on, didn't, and still have not got round to planting them. Is there any chance I can still plant them to be ready later in the year, or can I plant them at all for whenever they are ready?

Have you looked at the bag? If any are squishy or hollow then throw those out.

If you have any left, including those that have shooted; then pop them in the ground. That way you might get a few......there's no reason why they won't grow but I suspect quite a few will be too far gone to be of any use.

I'd stick a few in cell trays and see if you can get a dozen or so.

Nowt to lose seems to be the general consensus. If you are short of space you could always plant them close together and use them as spring onions!

Hi and thanks for you responses. I looked in the bag and out of 100 had to check away about 20. Managed to find a bit of time yesterday and planted them in the ground. Will wait and see what occurs.
          Thanks
