  • Acidic Conditions

Sorry, did a search but did not come up with much. Thinking ahead for next year.
Are there any veg that prefer acidic conditions. I don't want to just throw used coffee anywhere on the beds as I have read it is acidic. I know it can be put in compost bin but no more than 25% & am aware it deters slugs. Any advice would be gratefull.

Potatoes prefer slightly acidic conditions, I believe it helps to prevent scab too. Also most bush fruits such as currants and gooseberries, and canes like raspberries and blackberries, cope with a slightly acidic soil too.

Excellent, I have fruit bushes in tubs. That's a good start.
      Cheers Sarah.

Blueberries? I've had to keep mine in a tub for this reason.

Great so its mainly fruit. I was concerned because I have put some in onion & garlic beds.

Its much easier to turn an acidic bed Alkaline then tuther way round!

Tatties and soft fruit do indeed thrive in acidic conditions.

It's a question of degree of acidity/alkainity for most crops though!
