I was hoping to plant my shallots and sow some seeds today but my mum is over from Spain so I took her to RHS Wisley. She's off tomorrow, so that's my Sunday planned...

It was this dark! Taken from the safety of the car

Yesterday I planted all my indoor seeds in propogators much to my amusement, to an audience of my son, OH and friend, all suddenly taking an interest in gardening, trying to help out, but most worryingly.. asking me to explain how I knew what I was doing etc.... Is it just me or is it almost a second nature to know when to water/not waterlog, how deep to sow etc? Made it very hard for me to explain things as I didn't really know myself why I did them, just know they work...?

Went to plant out my first carrot and salad seeds yesterday too (with same audience) and got put off by the 3 flakes of snow that dropped

Had planned to sow them today instead but am currently suffering a large hangover after getting in at 4.30am this morning following moderate (well maybe not) drinking and cooking bacon sandwiches in the small hours of the morning... hee hee.

Me thinks gardening is an unlikely activity for today now.

Nick & Michael
You have no need to worry - my Psychiatrist assures my team of carers / jailers that my psychopathic tendencies are being kept in check by my tablets and injections - they've even given me a new straitjacket - put on a few pounds since they withdrew my oral nicotine sticks - and the rubber walls stop my screams from waking the dead.
All I can advise is beware the phases of the moon - for I'll be out planting my carrots according to Jaxom

I planted my rocket spuds at the w/e and covered the bed with feed sacks to try and help with any frosts. Planted a self grown conker tree in the middle of the chook field. Checked the propagator and my 5 cabbages have sprouted, 3 cucumbers and the Globe artichokes are on their way. It's a lovely morning here so I think this afternoon I will give the grass it's first cut, oh yes and watered the compost bins.

Horrible weather at the weekend, snowed Sat. night & during yesterday- not as bad as Scotland though. Freezing arctic wind today so I have just potted up some sweet pea plugs which I've just received & am considering venturing into the garden in my thermals!

shovelled lots of slate chippings round the edge of the house to cover up bits of nastiness until we can afford to redo the patio (10 years away?). tied up some particularly vicious roses. thought about sowing salad seeds to put in the porch, but am waiting for my new mini-greenhouse cover to come. came indoors from arctic cold.

Jaxom, just being nosey, what do you do with your worms? Do you sell them, or use them in your garden, or give them to the fishes on the end of a line???

It's my first year of keeping a wormery so I am still building up my stock of worms.
I will be using them in the worm bins as they only live in the top 12" of soil and this is where they eat all the kitchen waste. When I have more than I need I will put them in the garden soil to work on any fresh compost I put in the beds.
Jax

Hey WiZeR
Watch you don't get arrested for "fiddling" with a compost bin

Today I sowed some Owa Onions, Oregano, Courgettes, Cayenne Peppers, Statice, Lobelia and Sweet Peas. I also transplanted some peppers, tomatoes, lettuce and cosmos to bigger pots. Ah!... and poted some Fittonias in a big pot for the lounge.

Yesterday I sorted all my unused seeds out & scrubbed dozens of old plant labels clean. Today I took most of the seeds to a local primary school for their gardening club to have a go at & next I'm going to pot up some dahlias I found lurking at the back of the store cupboard!

Bought, transported and carted to final resting place, all the compost, grow bags and bark bags (two trips with trailer). Moved 220 bricks (rash purchase going cheap last October and now regretted). Created new strawberry bed, planted bare root roses and potted up some annuals which arrived in post this morning.

Dreamt of those of you south cutting grass and sowing seeds. More snow expected here tomorrow

Manured with chicken manure, used the last of it up, so now have a nice free empty tub to store stuff in! Pruned Buddleia.
