plenty of rain for the plants

went to get compost bins and shop closed 10 mins earlier (arrgh)
I blame the late night poker and wine!

Found an abandoned bin down the road and took it up to the allotment for collecting water.

put bags of gravel on sheeting that covers tools as wind had blown it off

took sunday peelings to compost heap

looked up plants for next year online (plans afoot for next year)

Good weather. Allowed me to go out and errect planter to place in gooseberry bush. Rotoseived some compost out of now one of the three compost bins. Amazing how they accumulate like darleks! Planted some tulips to attract bees next year. "The Garden" mag arrived in post from RHS. Read article on growing Lemon Grass. Very good. RHS advice was on gourmet veg, but found that planting times were in spring and not as article said "jobs this month". Also found article on "Packing a punch" on micro greens. May try some of these later and with propagation times within days and soiless growth may be a way to extend veges esp at this time of year to spice up some of the turkey sandwiches.

Lovely weekend but ground still too wet to do any actual digging. I've relented and bought some round-up to help clear the rest of the plot, I'm going to wait until its abit drier before killing the weeds. Hoping this will speed things up. Went to lottie to check the ground and make sure everything is still going strong. Broad beans look fantastic, lovely and healthy, but my meteor peas seem to be struggling. Onions/Garlic look fantastic.

Can't wait for the ground to dry out abit and then I can get back too it.

Default Cracking weather

Can't believe its a week before Xmas, so mild I was digging in a T-shirt

Managed to get up early enough to buy 2 compost bins, fill them with my heap and dig a few more meters of grond for my raspberry canes

OH insisted I take up the dozens of plantpots I have in the flat from windowsill growing to the alotment (now piled up in black binbags) ...gonna have to look into buying a shed. Too late to write to santa now I think!

Default Sun 17th.

What a great weekends weather. Today too frosty to go outside, but managed to get a couple of hours in this afternoon. Some pruning of general shrubs to see where there is bare earth for future use. Tidied up compost heap and started sweet pea growing. Found this year I had better sweet pea crops when started previous year rather than planting in spring/summer as I did previous year. Ten varieties bought to add an extra dimension for next years garden.

Watered lettuce in the tunnel and am still harvesting chillies believe it or not. Leeks pulled to make a chicken and leek pie which was scrummy.

Finally worked that off by cutting about 2 ton of fire wood into cords and stacked them ready for next winter. It was very pleasant thanks to the weather.

Have a really crap job to do today.

Our Dog took a turn for the worse last night so she's off for one last trip I fear. Ah well I feel a bit of tree planting coming on to remind me of a faithfull friend of 16 years.

Oh no Nick. That's really bloody awful. This is something that I really hate doing and after Harley went last year I have refused to get another dog.

That make two of us then LJ cos I hate it as well. Just got thru to the vets & I've got totry and kill time till 10:00 when I can get in to see them .

We could never get another one like Meg, she's been absolutly brilliant while the kids were growing up & when my wife was ill she never left her side. It is so distressing to see her like this.

Catch you later and hopefully I'll be back to my usual self.

I empathise with you Nick, whilst not having a dog we have two cats and Betty who is 17 is nearing the end. I have had her for nearly half of my life.

As for not getting a new dog LJ, how does a house trained piglet grab you

Plants truely are amazing ... despite heavy frost and mist my nasturtiums are OK

There was only minor frost damage and there are still nice, large seeds for me to collect today. I am even more surprised to see there are still some flowers too.

Does the nasturtium know it's winter?

Sorry to hear that Nick. I can be heartbreaking and put you off, but then thinking of all the fab times too can also be a spur to (after a while) look at getting another to have more (different though) good times with a pet

Sorry to hear of the bad news Nick, I can certainly sympathise, we lost our dog of 14 years in May this year, she (Lady) was a very special dog, and one that Lee had rescued when she was a pup (she'd been left behind by her owners when they moved out, after a day or so Lee rang the police and RSPCA, who both said they couldnt do anything for another 3 days! Lee told them she wouldnt be there, broke into the house and rescued her, nursed her back to health and they were insepparable!)

A week after Lady passed over we took on another rescue dog, Willow, a Lurcher crossbreed from Cheshire Dogs Home, a lovely loving, fun filled and friendly beauty, who we fell in love with immediately, only to find a week later that she had cancer, although we had her treated she had complications and was in pain, so she was PTS in my arms a month to the day afer we got her. Both Lady and Willow are buried in the back garden.

We now have Bella Donna, an 18 month old Great Dane Alsatian crossbreed, who is gorgeous, fun filled and loving, so it is worthwhile getting another dog, they cant replace the one thats left you, but they can enrich your life, and think of all those dogs out there looking for a loving home, besides, we both felt that our house felt empty without at least one 'furbaby' in it!

Anyhows, sorry for having waffled on, our thoughts are with you at this difficult time, and if theres anything we can do, just holler, ok?

Sorry to hear about your dog NIck.

Sixteen years is a good innings though and as they say 'Time is a great healer', which is more than can be said about my dog!
