| removed 6 lavender from big pot and replanted 5 of them round garden before heavens opened. planted out last remaining toms in new blue pots. planted out peppers. moved all sweet williams into one half of cold frame. planted out 9 sweet peas (why 9? cos the kids sowed them) into the pot the lavender was in, with a wigwam. wondered why 1 asparagus crown is still doing nothing while the other 9 have 1 weedy spear each (tis the 1st year tho). wondered if my new pots might be ready this weekend, or will they all be ready the weekend after when we go to Spain for 2 weeks. thought about moving coriander into pots from seed pot, thought about getting some nasturtiums into the ground out of their cells. decided to have glass of wine instead! |

| Took stock of some successes and failures - Successes (well, so far, so good!) - leek (Musselburgh) seedlings are popping up at long last, have eventually managed to germinate two courgette seedlings which will be ample if they survive, early pototoes poking the first leaves out of the ground .Failures - One young Victoria plum tree not survived (one more and two pear trees planted the same time doing fine though), slugs and leatherjackets making mincemeat of the young salad crops Remedial action - broad beans going yellow (phosphate deficiency ) so watered in a fertiliser. Juiced some oranges and put the empty halves amongst the seedlings to catch the slugs. Drank yummy fresh OJ .Everything's sprouting like crazy now, including the docks, but I'm off to Latvia for two weeks - what will I find when I get back?? |

| Went out to talk to the seedlings I had potted up over the last two days, only to discover that something nasty has been eating them! Moved them off the ground back onto the table in the hopes that that will save what is left! Yesterday pulled my first lettuce and planted out more bean seeds, pea seedlings. Aubergine and celery seeds coming on apace though still very small. Incidently all of my seed pots have been out in the open for three weeks now should I have kept my very small seedling inside? Feel that they would normally grow outside as it has not been cold. Pouring with rain today and v. v windy so am watching things from a distance. Hens are not happy having so much wind! |

| Well today i planted out all my tomatoes and the rhubarb i grew from seed (all 21 of them) also four cucumber plants. I had to do this as i am off on holiday in just over a week and could'nt wait any longer. Fingers crossed they will survive. The toms are all really sturdy with first truss of blossom just opening. Checked white turnips and brocolli and are all growing great as are the weeds along side them. First lot of carrot seedlings are up. Early potatoes ready to earth up. All in all considering the awful weather i'm quite pleased. |

| Is the area I live the only place with none stop wind and rain for days?!!!.Managed to net my calabrese yesterday, before rain and winds started again. It's like a bog on our allotments.Very frustrated. Sat cutting pop bottle cloches indoors today ready for my sweetcorn, which is going to be to tall to fit bottles over by time dry enough to plant the corn. Some of it about 5/6inch high already.Usually out by 3/4inch tall. |

| Inspected my veg patch (which is in a large wooden trough) and wondered why the second row of spring onions has yet to materialise, why I only got one garlic shoot out of the dozen or so I planted, and if the beetroot and lettuce would actually make it, as they've been flattened by the rain. Installed a shelf in the greenhouse, in the form of a bathroom shelf thing from Ikea. The shelves I had were from a mini greenhouse (the type with a clear polythene cover) and they were too wide. The new shelves are fine, but I've lost a bit of space. I can actually stand up inside my greenhouse now, unlike my hubby, who is too tall. Repotted the courgette plant, looked at the fig tree (one fig that has been there weeks and refuses to ripen - guess we're not getting figs this year then), and brought a tray of echinecea seedlings indoors to give them a heat boost. Also brought in 2 pepper seedlings that seemed to take ages to germinate and are tiny. Am contemplating sowing some ladybird poppies, but don't know whether to do them in pots, or straight outside into a container. |

| Yesterday I started to buy some bits for the lottie I don't yet have, which included a little camping gaz/grill surface... looks good for tea and a mini BBQ as you get a flat square grill surface with it! Just got to find the canister style gas... Also got some hand tools, pruners and colapsable weed bin thingy. Today I started my rhubard wine, planted 2 tayberry and 2 logan berried that I got in the half price Woolie sale, put straw under my strawbs and put up half the netting (only half as the second lot of netting is too narrow, oops... trip to the shops tomorrow me thinks)

| After leaving the allotment alone since last Thursday cos of the rain and tried to concentrate on other things (like entertaining the kids and watching Leeds getting beaten, brilliant that was I have to say !!!!!!!), I went to the allotment tonight to check what damage had been caused by the wind, rain and general poor weather we have all had. To my surprise, I've only lost my sweetcorn (and I understand this is hard to grow, even when the weather is better than what we have had???). The rest (cauliflowers, cabbage, lettuce, sprouts, leeks, beetroot and onions) are doing surprisingly well. Potatoes are flying I have to say. Question though - my earlies are doing well, but my second earlies and maincrop are also coming along leaps and bounds!!!......is this right?....main crop, harvest August onwards? but they are getting bigger by the day...all have been earthed up too. Any advice would be appreciated. |

| No sure I should admit this one but here goes..... Had an emergence trip to Tescos after running out of contact lens solution this morning and getting mighty p*ssed off with Boots over an exchange and storming of adamant I wasn't spending another penny in there ever again... so anyway, while there I wanted to pick up two more pineapples as the last two I had were delicious. Well they'd obviously over-ordered them as they were selling off tonnes at 20p. As you may or may not have read on other threads, I'm making a start at wine making (need to stir the rhubharb stuf soon) so thought, why not? 5 pineapples for my mum and 2 for me to consume, and an extra 15 for wine making later I toddled of to get the other bits that I actually went in for.. My OH tried rushing off ahead of me to try and pretend he didn't know me until I just talked louder at him Well, it gets worse. Walking round Tescos I suddenly start wondering how many will have good enough roots to start growing as house plants (very Bob Flowerdew I know). Do you think I have 'Gardener' stamped through me like a stick of rock?
