I have one set of tomatoes to pot on (tumbling tom). Somehow I have ended up with 100 tomato plants, I don't know what to do with them all. My potatoes are still chitting as I still haven't room for them. My onion and shallots have been in the ground for about 3 weeks and are growing away well, as is the garlic. I will be sowing leeks, cabbage (Andrewo, I haven't forgotten I owe you some savoy seeds, PM me your address as I'll be opening the packet this weekend), brussels in seed trays and hopefully making first sowings of carrots, parsnips and beetroot straight in the ground - still haven't finished digging yet though...
I'm glad i'm not the only one who has ended up with loads of toms - i have about 30 moneymaker and 25 incas (plum toms). I am going to sell the excess at work and give the money to charity.

Wow, well last night I planted out my butternut and Kobocha squash plants under drinks bottle cloches.

Today I've been helping my OH's scout group de-weed a large area in a new piece of camping land they've taken over. Good day's work. For my troubles I earned a Bacon sarnie and a cold beer, some green wire fencing stuff they were going to throw (to contain the rampant squashes in their designated areas) and tonnes of comfrey that I've just added to my previously unused Water Butt for a total cost of £4 for the tap (got the water butt free as I found it dumped. Just need to fill with water now and make a lid...

Thinking about lottie fruit and veg now too...

I'm pooped. Now time to chek the net ideas of cooking sweet potato (other than straight forward baking that is...

Took OH out for her birthday treat and local pub had sweet-potato chips! Delicious.

Not too sure about doing that myself, might try in a pan, rather than the deep fryer to check the effect on the oil.

Have heard of sweet-potato mash also, but not tried it.

Sweet potatoes are also nice if you cut them into wedges, drizzle with a bit of oil and pop in the oven until they have started to go brown very nice with some mayo

Sweet potatoes are also lovely dipped in olive oil and then cooked on top of your bbq! Standard fare in SA together with butternut which is also delicious baked in the oven with sweet potatoes, onion, parsnips and florence fennel. Yum!

Just potted on tomatoes, cabbage, lettuce as well as basket toms. Written down doesn't seem like much but it took me a good couple of hours!

I mainly either mash sweet potatoes or par boil them and add them to thai curry.

I cut mine into wedges in the end, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled some mild chilli powder over them.. I was sooo impressed I used the one left over potato to try and propogate slips (got the method from another thread on here) If I get my lottie soon and not next year, I'll be planting them on there

Went to visit the lottie secretary on Sunday and ached like heck from the raking etc on Saturday... still really feeling it now . Triggered off my neckache really badly. Stupid me Out come the neurophen, hate taking tablets.

That said, it didn't stop me from planting out more runner beans on Sunday morning and 4 tomatos under pop-bottle cloches Sunday afternoon, oh and batch baking meat pies for the freezer. MMmmmmmmm

Started my list of bits for the lottie together... oh dear I'm really getting excited about it and might not even get this one yet!

Mmm, sweet potato mash with a big blob of butter on top.Never grown them myself though.
Last night my O.H. came in & said the front garden was covered with snails, it was warm & wet & had brought them all out of hiding. I went out in the drizzle with a big plastic bag & picked them all off.Passers-by probably wondered why a nutty woman was crawling around the garden in the wet but as we live just round the corner from a pub maybe not!
This morning I have been shuffling seedlings from the propagator to the table, table to the windowsills, windowsills to the plastic greenhouse outside-running out of room again.

Today i earthed up my spuds in the garden, and planted out my peas which have been growing in cardboard toilet roll tubes.
I also sewed some radishes and spring onions as intercrops...
I sewed some nasturtiums and planted some morning glory seedlings into the flower border, and also put some runner beans into more cardboard tube pots.
Also, (my I've been busy it didn't seem like much at the time) I let the chickens out of their coop to free range around the garden for an hour.
The joy of being off work sick with a nasty cold :-)

Basked in glorious sunshine. blue skies, no wind and a wopping temperature of 15 degrees. Yes that is summer for us up here. Didn't do much as I just wanted to enjoy it. So sat in the garden in my deckchair (in a T-shirt and shorts) and read my GYO mag and did a bit of hoeing.

That was until 7 pm - now the fog has come in and I can't see the end of the garden. That is the trouble here - one day of sunshine, three days of fog. Oh well .............

I went to town clothes shopping for my holidays. Midway through the afternoon the sun came out so i abandoned the shops and came home to my greenhouse where everything was drooping for water. The ups and downs of the english and irish weather.!

I found a brown slug in my greenhouse, the door had been partially open but I found it in my basil seedlings which are on a table. It had chomped through 2 seedlings before being stamped on. How on earth did it get there? There is gravel all round the front of the greenhouse. Little scamp. I'm hardening off my thyme, corriander, parsley, chives, oregano and sage at the moment. Peas, beans and sweetcorn are next out although not all germinated yet

Amanda1, slugs have never heard about not walking over gravel, broken egg shells, seashells etc. & will get in any nice cosy greenhouse!
I've been juggling eveything around from the plastic greenhouse, kitchen etc. again today & have planted out my asparagus peas & broad beans. Painted the front step as well so the cat is bound to sit on it- she can't read the note pinned to the door saying 'wet paint'.

Potted on my PSB, calabrese, sweet peas, tomatoes, tagetes and some lettuce.
Spuds in buckets all through and out of top of buckets, maincrops just breaking through the ground - they were earthed up at planting time.
Hoed onions and shallots and garlic.
CCA salad leaves will be ready to eat this weekend.
Mowed lawn, cleaned car inside and out - all since 5 0'clock.
Weather is scorching hot and has been for three days now - have severe sunburn on back of neck and tops of arms / shoulders - ain't nowhere to hide in a 45 acre field !

Brought in excess tomato plants for people at work, just another 30 or so to get rid of! Also put my beans and peas out to start hardening off, some of them haven't germinated yet (and probably won't as its been a little while) but I'll fill the gaps with seed as I plant. I'm hoping the birds/slugs won't get them whilst I'm at work. Courgettes also got potted on and are being hardened off. Supposed to be poor weather this weekend so I will try and sow some carrots and parsnips when I get in tonight
