Yesterday evening went round Robinson's brewery and had a great time. Best bit of all was then the guide told us that anyone with an allotment was welcome to as many used hops for free. Just collect. I had collected some about 10 yrs ago but thought by now they would be charging for it!

Went down the allotment for some more digging & planted some more 1st early spuds. Having a slight panic as I have bought too many seed spuds & at the moment have no where to plant the 6k of maincrop until the last really overgrown patch is dug which is full of couch grass etc.

Hopefully the earlies will be out of the ground in time for me to plany out the courgettes & beans etc.

If you see a huge kite flying over the east midlands with three people hanging off it tommorow its my wife daughter and I trying to fit the cover to our tunnel.

Today was home based with bamboo getting dug up, red hot pokers "down sized" and penstemons cut back and layered, new plants cut off and potted up. Three freebies so I am quite pleased. More flowers for cutting were sown and now that the tunnel is going to be serviceable, some tomatoes may have to go in there and be double fleeced as I have serious space issues in the greenhouse and workshop which is now being used as overflow space. They will be more cold tolerant than chillies and aubergines. The cover is a thermic one so will offer a little protection.

It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow so at least the breeze will be warm for you

Transplanted the rest of my toms that didn't get done last night, and planted my newly aquired Kabocha seeds

Pigletwillie - how do you "downsize" red hot pokers ? I've got loads, they grow like wildfire here.

Just thought Nicos - would you like some red hot pokers ?

I do it like this very successfully, pull of all the old and tired leaves to leave all the nice newish growth. dig out the plant and then cut it into sections. You can generally see where new clumps are forming so I generally cut it there. Replant a nice bit back into the hole after applying compost and feed and then find recipients for the rest or plant elsewhere in the garden. They dont flower very well the first year but much more vigouously in future years.

Thanks PW - some of my flowers were a bit low last year, and I put it down to the weather. The clumps are probably getting a bit congested.

Oops, went a bit spend potty and bought a lot more plants. Have decided where to put my wildlife section of my garden, and bought some bits to go in too.

Planted some hedging plants along one side of my garden, alongside some lavendar I bought today. Also planted half of my rain daisy (bought 6 in total, I know a bit OTT).

Need to read up on how to care for my new blackcurrant tonight too.

Tomorrow I suppose I should try and do some housework!

Finished the tunnel at last and all the tatties in the ground with a few left over to plant in barrels. Absolutely shattered but a happy piglet.

For once we had a great day weather wise. Got lots done on the allotments and sowed loads of beans. Probably sowed far too many but never mind.

Lovely day here - finished work at half four (what's a Bank Holiday then???) to get some time in the garden.
Sowed calabrese "F1 Hydra" into modules, planted out shallots (Golden Gourmet) and onion setts (Setton heat treated) into beds under plastic cloche. Both previously planted in pots in greenhouse. Planted last of tatties - (Rooster and British Queen) in beds - decided to earth up at planting time as per discussions on another thread. Had three BQ tubers left so they've gone into a big plastic container.
Squished some more greenfly

Forced out of garden yesterday by OH so we went to Liverpool & walked around Sefton Park. It was lovely- blue skies , scented daffodils nodding in the breeze & I came home sneezing my head off because of the pollen!

Today I have planted out the broadbeans after making an interesting frame arrangment. (have spent weeks playing with ideas - only to copy next door!) Also planted out some early carrots, made a large hole with a metal rod and filled it with compost technique as we have very heavy soil... not sure how successful they will be? Sown tomoatoes, sweet & hot pepers and leeks and put into greenhouse.

I'm kn*ckered.... cleaned and moved a heap of bricks down the end of the garden to tidy one area and completely sorted out the area around the compost bins (some fencing with jasmins now intertwined, leveled the soil and put down three stepping stones, and moved some self-seeded aquilegia and antihurinums. Then bark mulched the lot)

Also transplanted a rose from my parents and my hydrangea and 3 more rain daisy.

I'm dreading winding down tonight as that's when it'll hit me how much my back hurts

Tell me about it shortie, I have been walking around like an extra from "the planet of the apes" all day at work trying to fathom out what bit aches the most.

I am glad to at work for the rest, nah I`d sooner be on the plot.

Got up early and sowed the GYO freebie peppers, some winter cabbage, some savoy cabbage, lettuce (assorted types), all into cells in greenhouse. Then put my kilt into dry cleaners and went shopping for wedding rings, favours, new dress shirt, kilt hose and flashes etc.
