Yummy.

My £5 voucher arrived on Monday and on page 25 of the catalogue they have a special offer "Sprouting Seed Collection".

1 two tiered sprouter and one pack of the following 9 seeds for £15.99p

Adzuki beans, alfalfa, chickpea, fenugreek, mung beans, mustard, onion, snow peas and sunflower.

The seeds nornally sell for £1.99 each.

To buy individually it would cost £23.90, but only £10.99 + postage with the voucher.

Split lentils or split peas won't sprout because they are split
Whole lentils, green, brown, black or blonde should all sprout and are much cheaper than packets of 'sprouting seeds'
Lentils and peas should all be fine to eat - as far as I know its only the larger beans like kidney beans which have high levels of toxins. Smaller beans like moong or aduki/adzuki are fine.

I've just got some marrowfat peas to sprout ( really cheap! ) Has anyone used these? I know the pea-sprouts are good but does anyone eat the whole thing, peas and all?

It's free P&P this weekend if you use this code: WSE231 on the box at the top of the Shopping Basket page (you can put your voucher code in that box too)
My seed sprouter cost me just 99p in real money, free delivery Thanks everyone

Just a word of warning although I'm sure some you already know this.

I have one of the T&M sprouters and used a whole pack of the Radish Daikon seeds in it last week.

The seeds were quite big and they filled each tray with a single layer however upon sprouting they grew quite big and overcrowded the trays so even with the daily rinsing the roots started to rot and it ended up smelling pretty rank (had to throw the lot away).

I put all the seeds from an alfalfa pack in it a few weeks ago and didn't have the same problem but the leaves and roots were much much smaller.

In future I think I'll err on the side of caution and just use half the packet at a time in the sprouter.

I use a plastic scoop no matter what the size of the seeds are. I think I get about 8/10 sowings from a packet.

Hmmmm.
A thin sowing would suffice: they get really big as they sprout, as you now know

I'm pleased to report the marrowfat peas were wonderful.
The whole lot went into a stir-fry at 6 days, shoots. roots and seeds.
You cant get much cheaper than dried peas but its Aduki beans this week

Have got several different sprouters mostly from bootfairs or charity shops. Find the square tiered one good but this one which I had for Christmas a few years ago is the most convenient as you don`t need to rinse every day. Sometimes the sprouts do get a bit matted so I give them a rinse and separate them after 4 or 5 days.
I think it`s on E bay as well.

Snow peas are nice
I'm going to grow some this year, so I don't have to spend £2 on a pack ever again
