  • 2nd crop from broad beans ?

I planted my broadies late - but got a good crop.
When I harvested them I left the roots and bits of growth in the ground.
They are growing away fine - plenty of new leaf growth.
Question is - if I give them a good feed and keep them watered will I get a worthwhile second crop from these plants - or should I have them out and plant something else.

You can get a 2nd crop (I just got a half dozen pods off an old plant myself) but they aren't all that good ... the pods were mostly empty

Mine have started throwing up new shoots from the base, but some of the plants have had the leaves stripped completely - I have no idea what by! Any ideas?

Thanks Two Sheds. If they won't make a worthwhile crop I'll have them out and put something else in.

Can't yet comment on whether they'll be worthwhile, but I sowed a few really late ones...had a little corner vacant & just a few seeds that weren't worth saving,so nothing to lose. The flowers(albeit tiny)have recently died off & tiny pods are forming...will see how they go!

yeah I've had the same thing but I've reckoned that I'll be better off planting my brassicas as I'll get more from them in the same space. Hope I'm right! It was quite hard to dig something out that was still putting up flowers!

Thanks I was wondering the same thing as mine had re-grown too. Think will dig them in instead of waiting.

I left some in a few years ago and they did sprout and do a bit but the pods were small and not very good. Not done it again as I want the space for other things.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
