  • The 2013 We Shall Overcome Thread...

Me and VVG were talking on Twitter...

And I can grow big Parsnips but she can grow Celeriac...but we both have trouble growing the other.

So, as I was saying to Mr Z last night - we really need to crack growing Celeriac this year. We love it.

So, what is your one [only give yourself 1] nut you want to crack in 2013?

Carrots. The carrot fly do for them every time - maybe I'll try them in buckets this year.

Mind you, 2012 was a new low - I couldn't even get the darn things to germinate with any success.

Bloomin' sweetcorn! It's going in the tunnel this year, and if that doesn't crack it....!!

        Cucumbers!

If I'm lucky I keep them alive long enough to plant them in the greenhouse,
I get a couple of fruit and then they just seem to wither and die
I can manage the round ones outside but would love some 'proper' shaped ones

Aubergines, I know they have pretty flowers but next time I'd like more than one 'fruit' from 4 plants.

Courgettes! Why does everyone talk about gluts of them when I'm lucky if I have one per plant - actually I'm lucky if I have a plant that survives to flower.............

Squash - I don't care what kind. I have about 6 varities for next year and I would like just one of them to be a success (I'd say all 6 but is that cheating)?

Celeriac for me too, can't get a bulb bigger than an apple. Always thought that it was down to lack of water in the past but that really can't be the reason this year!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Courgettes for me too. It was just too cold here last year. I'm hoping we will have the polytunnel up by the time the courgettes are ready to go out. If not, they will will be battling the wind and poor temperatures in 2013.

Carrots for me too. Maybe I'll try some in tubs, where I can give them lighter soil...

Cyboes (Spring Onions), I'm lucky to get 5 piddling seedlings out of a packet of say 500 seeds. Thank heavens for potato onions! Mild enough to pop in salads.
