It's my OH birthday tomorrow and we're having the family over for lunch. It's been a very slow start harvest wise but at last we've picked yellow mange tout, red and brown onions, cherry toms, little gem, ice king, cos, cucumber, courgette, spuds, gooseberries, parsley, cauliflower, broad beans, gooseberries. Going to make Cream of Cauliflower and Courgette Soup, Roast Chicken with all the veg and a gooseberry cheesecake washed down with some of the Elderfower Champagne.

Poor show here compared to lots of you, got a good quantity of purple-podded mangetout (they have been really good this year) a few pods of Alderman (waiting the next lot to start producing - in flower now) 4 pods of broad beans (must sow more next year) one turnip and a half-dozen Golden Wonder tatties. Also got four climbing beans - loads of flowers but the weather keeps blowing them to bits I think and we aren't getting much crop. I have had one courgette this year - don't think I will bother with them again.

5 "normal" sized courgettes
2 "marrow" sized courgettes
a bowl full of Red Robin cherry toms
8 baby turnips
handful of French beans
several handfuls of Runner beans
3 chillies

not bad for 4 days away!

Courgettes, PSB, french and runner beans. Also lifted the onions for drying/storing. Turbo and Sturon - both have done really well - huge bulbs. Should really take some photos and put on the veg show.

First pepper of the year [grown outdoors] and some borlotti for a curry tonight.

Yesterday - more spuds [Pentland Javelin] and some red onions from sets [the ones that weren't doing too well].

6 artichokes (globe type, imperial star) all tasteless and horrible. won't bother with them again.

3 cherry tomatoes - no idea of variety but really tasty.

a massive pile of perpetual spinach - now in my tummy

1 white beetroot

a bowlful of beans for the freezer.

ohhhhh 4 courgettes.
