Default Argh - weather!!

It's just started hailing so hard that chunks of ice have been bouncing down the chimney and out of our fireplace!

Wonder what state my poor plants will be in tomorrow morning.

It's been really sticky here and had been lightning for about the last 2 hours but the rain/hail has only just started.

I've just dashed out and brought in my courgettes and toms - bit late now it's mostly passed over, but at least they can dry out a bit overnight!

It's lovely up here. Warm gentle rain - like being in the tropics

My impression is there's been more hail this year than is normal, no idea if that is a) statistically true or b) due to any particular conditions - but we've had a few hailstorms here recently (North Midlands) and friends in Oxon have reported several quite hefty instances there. Wiki informs the world "hail is most common in mid-latitudes during early summer where surface temperatures are warm enough to promote the instability associated with strong thunderstorms, but the upper atmosphere is still cool enough to support ice". It also records freakish 6 inch diameter hailstones weighing over a pound each which have killed people (and probably not done a lot for courgettes and outdoor toms either - or greenhouses come to that! ) So glad you and your plants are safe, busylizzie.

Hail, jeepers.
Summer's not here yet then. (still boiling hot here in Norfolk: we're loving it)

We've been warm/hot and dry for more than a week now. I hate to say it, but my lottie is light soil and I could really do with some steady rain overnight for one night only. Hope someone's listening.
