| Bad luck about your plants Wayne. I pulled my Tam & Jalapeno last week without entering as they had to be moved as were both in the ground. Both had good size fruit but maybe next year Julian will have something I've overwintered and I'll be ready earlier. - I think Big Jim was last years plant. Here's one of my Tam.

| That's the only thing I found with the Tam, they cork so much once they start and show any colour.

| I've got some of these seeds, but I dunno if I'm going to sow them this year - I'm over-run with chilli & pepper plants (not to mention tomatoes ) so I don't think I've got room for any more plants Even for the Chileman Challenge! Jalapeno Telica Seed

Its one I overwintered in the kitchen window, now has 2 fruits and about a dozen more flowers, I checked the rules and cant see anything saying you cant enter an overwintered plant, tho we have got some Jalapeno seedlings growing aswell, just in case our overwintered plant is disqualified! Now at 6 cm long!! ![]()

| Hi Mrs D, if you kook here I think it says the competition opened on the 1st January, so good luck with the seedlings. ...

| Overwintered plants are fine, because they don't give any unfair advantage. Sure Mrs D has been able to post an entry sooner than most, but there is plenty of time for everyone. To the best of my knowledge, there is no evidence to say an overwintered, second season jalapeno will produce either larger or smaller pods than a new first season plant. So while Mrs D basks in glory now, she knows well that there are over a hundred plants growing around the world and it is only a matter of time before one of them produces a larger pod... or is it. |

| Cool, thanks for the clarification Julian, I thought I hadnt seen anything in the rules about overwintrered plants, but as always I was still a little concerned, so glad that I can now put my mind to rest! ![]() As for doing well, well, we diod ok last year, but this year I'm hoping we can do better, but as our Jalapeno isnt a particularly long podded variety, then we'll have to see! ;D

| Maybe someone reading this thread can help Wayne out with a seedling Jalapeno if they have one spare. :-) All is not lost yet.

| Lol! But we know you use witchcraft (aka lights!) on yours crichmond! ![]() Its odd we've got about 12 peppers/chillis that were all planted at the same time (planted 2nd Feb some up by the 9th Feb), but the purple jalapeno and the hanoi red came thru 1st (with 3 others) and have been growing faster than the others ever since. (You can see the size difference in the picture above.) It would seem that not all peppers are created equally! Can't think of anything else to account for the big difference - I'll have another read back thru the diary to see if there was any reason. They haven't had any 'food' other than whats in the compost until the big two were potted on into the black pots and the others just now into the square pots. We've put some 'fresh' bat poo in with the compost. Oh and a couple of times they had a weak seaweed feed in their water. ![]()
