I have a greenhouse, wooden and need to paint it with stain to preserve, am I better waiting until Autumn or doing it now?

If you have the time, do it now. The modern garden stains dry quickly and are not harmful to plants if they get small splashes on them - always easier to remove the plants methinks.
Most modern stains should last at least two seasons if not more.

Try something like Sadolin that soaks in rather than a coloured stain that sits on the surface. It lasts much longer and wont chip of or blister.

Andrewo, the folk wisdom and experience I have says if you treat wood with preservative it will last about 15 years. On the other hand untreated wood will last about 15 years. Which way do you want to do it?

I think this a short term thing as I will get a larger aluminium one there if I stay here.
