  • Replacing Greenhouse glass with Polycarbonate

    Hi everyone,

My greenhouse has taken a bit of battering over the last 12 months and some of the glass needs replacing and some are completely missing.

So I was thinking of replacing it with Polycarbonate sheeting plastic, what I wanted to know is does anyone know where I can get this and for a decente price, as I noticed it can be very expensive?

Also is there another optition other than glass and polycarbonate that I do not no about?

    Thanks all

        Hi Pagey
Try Gardencraft Greenhouse Spares at Gardencraft, Porthmadog, Gwynedd, North Wales , they also have the pre-formed glazing strips which are essential with this kind of glazing. They are sticky and hold the whole frame really rigid.

A chap at the allotments has just went the other way.............replacing polycarbonate with glass. Every sheet of polycarbonate was blown out of his greenhouse during windy conditions.........some never to be seen again.
If you are thinking polycarbonate will be better for a windy spot...........forget it!

I am also wanting to do this... but for safety reasons as we have a three year old
Does anyone have a link to step-by-step instructions for how to do this?

On that note... does anyone know where we can get a replacement door for a greenhouse? We have found two mangled specimens in the weeds but neither appear to fit the greenhouse... nor do we have the door bar...

If it's not for family safety reasons I would question whether it is worth it. Generally glass will last much longer than polycarbonate, it is probably more environmentally friendly, and the costs are not prohibitive especially as you can replace a pane at a time (I replace maybe 2 a year in 2 greenhouses).
