Default min max thermometer

I've just bought one of these in Wilkinsons for £4.99 but (sounds daft I know) am not sure how it works. Left side shows min temp, right side max and there is a button in between which I guess must reset it. But .... when I press the button nothing happens - the two blue lines above the silver 'mercury' stay in the same place even though there is a gap between the blue and the silver. Have I got a dud? How do you reset one of these thermometers?

Thanks.

You need to hold the button in until the markers settle on top of the mercury - one quick press is not enough!! I have two of these and they are great. If you still have problems re-setting it after holding the button in, take it back to the store and complain.

I have had the same ones as RustyLady, and they are Cr@p if they get wet (even though they are supposed to be outside thermometers).

When you press the button you are pushing a magnet in the back plate away from the two blue pins, you need to let gravity drop the blue pins to settle on the top of the Mercury.

Less prodding, you should be fine.

Thank you all. I followed your advice this morning to reset it and it worked! Min temp last night had been 6 degrees - max temp shown as 34 in the morning sunshine.

However, they can still randomly go wrong, the one I have been quite happlily using for the past few years as now decided to give me a different temperature on the max and min sides (the actual mercury, not the recorded high or low!). One side says that the instantaneous temp is about 6deg cooler than the other. Clearly not possible but I've not got around to getting a new one yet.

I have exactly the same problem with one of mine. The column is no longer the right length because some of the mercury on the high temp side has somehow gone right up into the top of the tube, bypassing the littel blue indicator!!

Currently storing it indoors while I wait for the receipt to surface so I can take it back!
