We have made the decision to take down our v. old wooden greenhouse at the end of this growing year

It is so damaged (see my old thread) and, after consulting a local carpenter, it is not financially viable to have it repaired. In fact, he has admitted that if he repaired it all, he would actually have to replace every piece of wood in it and it would cost just as much as buying a new one of that size (which we can't afford to do).

We'll lose the our grapevine, as I doubt we can transplant such a monster (about 30 years old) as its huge and practically holding one side of the greenhouse together.

However, we'll be getting a lovely big polytunnel and smaller greenhouse to replace it!

We plan to place the tunnel and greenhouse closer to the veg garden, and replace our galvanised water tanks (rusty and old) with newer plastic water butts and an irrigation system.

Phew, decision made....

How exposed is the grapevine?- it might just survive outside you know. Well worth giving it a try at least- I don't think they move well as they have deep roots.
Can you leave it where it is????

Why not take cuttings whilst it is dormant???

Sorry to hear is past it's best now. As Nico's says the vine might survive I know some one in Edinburgh who took the greenhouse down and the vine survived!

Ooooo, you guys have given me an idea.... wonder if I could get a wooden pergola thing to go where the greenhouse was, as a seating area....

The grapevine could be hung on that somehow.....

Why not support it temporarily until you can put a permanant support there.
I am thinking along the lines of crossing pices of wood like you would do with canes for a bean support frame ie crossed near the top and the grapevine nesseled in the v at the top.

could you make it into some kind of arbor with seating area and then you can wrap the whole thing in kling film in the winter to protect the vine from strong winds .
