fleece advice!

    fleece advice!

    hey folks.
    I'm hoping for some advice. I've recently bought some fleece to put over some small hoops to cover my winter peas. It seems very thin, so i'm wondering if i can/should double it up. My main concern is whether this would prevent enough rain and or sunlight getting through? Any advice would ae very gratefully recieved!

    Fleece is porous.

    It does rip in the wind though, I gave up on it years ago.

      The best thing you can do with peas and beans, during the winter [some broad beans are also hardy] is to put 4 canes at each corner and tie string around the lot to help them against the wind.

      Then, if you are concerned or in a really cold spell, just drape netting [I use Ikea Lill net curtains] over the top. But I find they usually don't need it. But some people, even further south but nearer the sea, do. Hold the netting down with stones or bricks, or milk cartons filled with water.

        I would go down the netting route too,helps keep the wood pidgeons away .

          thanks for all of the advice. I've not normally bothered with fleece, it's just the winter pea packet stated they would need it or cloche for protection. Would much rather leave to their own devices!

            Anna- there are different grades of fleece too. I'm wondering if you've picked up one of the finer ones???

              Quite probably! Don't remember the label saying so, but will check tomorrow. Hopefully the packaging is still in the bin at end of the garden. Thanks for advice!
