  • Best cheap blowaway

    Hi All,

I'm thinking of getting a blowaway growhouse for my plot, to grow on seedlings, and later in the year, mature potted chillies, aubergines etc. Something like this:

    https://www.tesco.com/direct/outsunn...m/371-8930.prd

Anyone know of any brands to go for/avoid or seen any amazing bargains recently?

    Thanks in advance!

I got a wilko one but I don't fancy it having its cover on till March/April when the weather starts to settle. Mine is glued on all the joints and is fixed to breeze blocks using clip over pipe clips.

Thanks VC, looks like good value. Will have to see if I can fit one that big in though.

Great price, maybe a bit lacking in the shelving department though...

All I have to do now is get the other half to pull his finger out and make a bl@@dy decision on when we're going to the mainland.

I've never really shopped in L!dl - will the stores just have them in this week?

These things are really throwaways as much as blowaways , the plastic frame joiners are totally useless for outside use. I have one inside my greenhouse for early/late protection instead of using bubblewrap. I am trying to get some use from a tunnel that was destroyed by a modest wind by throwing the cover over water pipe supports, but after one season the zips on the openings are broken too. I would say they are not really fit for purpose, but plenty of folk keep buying them.

Ive had the Lidls one before and i would deffinatley get one again.
Theyll be there as long as they have stock Bario which isnt normally very long.
The cover lasts about three seasons but that was left on over winter, if you take it down then it should last quite a bit longer.
for 40 quid i dont think it can be beaten.

I hear what you're saying, Burnie, and my expectations wouldn't be high at that price. But my plot is fairly sheltered and with a bit of DIY anchorage, i'm hoping it'd survive a few seasons (i'd take it down in October). If it lasted three seasons it'd be worth it for the extra undercover space it'd provide - if it didn't, ah well, you live and learn!

I bought a large walk in one from wilko when they got rid of the garden stuff for £10 quid, I've held off putting up for fear of it blowing away.. but the reviews are good

Not sure if its the same , looks bit small but lidl have got one in at 39.99

When is everyone putting them up?

I have a small four shelf one bought from Wilko in the end of season sales last year for about £6 that has been lashed back to the shed on the allotment. I bought three of them as I will use the frames as staging in the greenhouse once erected.

My wife bought this one for me, put it up in a sheltered spot and the first bit of wind snapped most of the plastic "cross sections" that hold it together, lost my entire crop that year. Year 2 I threw the internals away, bearing in mind they'd had no more than 6 or 8 weeks total use. Put the cover on some water pipe and with lots of support it did a good job, best carrots I've ever had, great beetroots and parsnips were good too. Bulb fennel bolted and the celeriac wasn't great.
Just put it up for this years "roots" bed, it's ripped everywhere, the thread that holds it together is going rotten, I've just repaired it as best as I can. The actual plastic it is made from is breaking up and disintegrating, I doubt it will last for long.

The smaller one in the greenhouse looks more robust and has been in there since last October.

Is it just the big L!dls that stock this kind of stuff? Just popped into my local one, and there's nothing but groceries.
