  • Artificial warming of seed bed/tray.

I have red about using electric bulb to raise or reduce nursery bed/tray temperature in order to achieve a targeted germination temperature for the seeds. But how do I determine the bulb wattage to use for this purpose. I am keen to take an enlightened shot at this possibility. Is there possible help, please?

Other than trying a bulb at different distances from the seed tray I can't think how you could work out. Better I would have thought was to use a heated propagator or heat mat, with or without grow lights. Seeds benefit from bottom heat, not heat above to scorch the seedlings as they emerge. There is another thread demonstrating this quite clearly.

I recently tried using a heat mat, I found that it just dried the soil out in the trays from below, without really increasing the temp.
