| Hello every one I have been putting my tomatoes etc in the greenhouse each morning and carrying them back to the house each night. Some of them are getting quite large now (33cm) and a bit big. Would they be safe if I potted them up to 10 inch pots and left them in an unheated greenhouse rapped in fleece at night? I would not like to lose them at this stage. Does any one else do this? |

| I've just started leaving my larger one's in the greenhouse all the time. We had visitors at the weekend so I had to clear them all out from windowsills, shelves etc. I thought they'd be okay but one or two were hit by the severe cold we had the night before last. Seems to be mainly the one's that were either nearest the glass or at floor level, the others were okay. I have now started to fleece them over at night though and haven't had any further damage since.

| hello Cutecumber and sms6, Thanks for your replies. Yes we are still getting frosts here in e. yorks but I am hoping that next week will see the weather warming a little bit when I am thinking of leaving them in the greenhouse. I dont think that it is quite as warm yet here as in Cornwall or London so may be I am rushing things a bit? |

| We keep having frosts. Mine are in mini greenhouse, inside big greenhouse with bubble wrap and paraffin heater under bench. Still gets to 2C at night inside tho..so if unheated mine would die. You are further from civilisation and therefore colder:-) |

| Hi I have some that are outside, sitting in a polystyrene box with a clear plastic storage box; a makeshift cold frame. They've been out there for a month now and no sign of any problems at all.

| Hi J R Hilton - I'm in East Yorks too. I'm still ferrying mine in and out - had a sharp frost the night before last. I bought a set of inexpensive plastic trays last year so I can sit lots of pots on (when they get in pots too big for the 'dozen pot holder' type of thing). I worked out this morning that I take 7 journeys morning and night to my greenhouse at the end of my 100ft garden - that's 1400 ft in old money! Still, the gym costs more! There's a lot of residual heat in the dining room overnight which I'm already paying for. There's far more light in the cold greenhouse than I can get at any window in the house. So - it's a lifestyle choice - do you heat your greenhouse or do you use the surplus heat from home? I'm not taking any risks though. I knew these plants when they had nowt!

| Hi every body, Thanks for your replies. From what you all say I think I will be running backwards and forwards for a while yet but as I am going on holiday for a couple of weeks in early May I will have to have them in the greenhouse at the end of April. I can get some one to water them for me while away but carting them about is a no runner.I just hope the frosts have finnished by then. |

| Early May should be sheltered enough in a cold greenhouse - unless you're VERY unlucky.

| Mine have been in an unheated greenhouse for the past 3 weeks. It's not the cold i'm worried about but the 35+ degrees some days even with the vents open.

| I have had mine in a cold greenhouse now for about a month. Every night i cover them with a couple of layers of fleece and top this off with newspaper. My peppers are all in there as well and doing just fine, fingers crossed.

| Personally I'd risk it. Mine have been in a cold greenhouse for the last few weeks and this week we've had snow and several frosts. The plants are fine and I don't use fleece or anything else. At 33cm they must have a good degree of resilience to the cold.
