| Hi, First post so go easy ![]() About to order my first greenhouse (billyoh rosette 8x6 ft) and will be putting on a 12x12 foot decking plinth that was originally laid on paving slabs. Is this a definite no-no? We are just going to put growbags in there for peppers, tomatoes etc. or would we be better off putting 3x2 foot recycling tubs in there as less mess and can keep different fruit & veg apart? thanks for any tips. |

just been advised by billyoh that their greenouse is only suitable for mounting on grass. Anyone know which kind I need to mount on decking mounted on paving slabs? basically need one with a horizontal lip at the bottom of the greenhouse to screw down to the decking. |

| I am not convinced that a deccking plinth will not rot (especially as it is some years old) if just laid on the ground. really you need a block pier to give some air flow under the 'floor' Further I am very sure that you would need to level and peg it down VERY well. Honestly you don't want you green house blowing over.

| Welcome to the forum! Good luck with your new project!! Decking should be fine, just make sure there is enough air circulation so your wood does not rot. Are you going to bolt it down? You dont want it taking off in the wind lol.... I would treat it with some wood preservative, cuprinol or something..... Recycling tubs, great for growing cauliflowers in lol.........easy to make cloches for ![]() ![]() |

| Hi csiman, welcome to the gyo forum. I've never seen a greenhouse on decking before but as long as the decking is solid and does not move as you walk on it and as long as it is level you will be OK. Things I would consider is keeping it clean. The inside of a greenhouse is a spawning ground for all sorts of bugs. Also, the joint between the greenhouse base and the decking would be a moisture trap that could lead to the decking rotting prematurely at that point.
