  • Unlimited Free Coffee Grounds

My local Starbucks coffee establishment gives me huge quantities of used coffee grounds. Its Starbucks policy to give as much of these away as possible.

I got talking to the shop manager and he told me to call a few days in advance and they would save up the used grounds for me in large sacks.

They didnt have much storage space so usually binned the grounds at the end of each day. They had no problem with me taking as much as I wanted.

I use them all around the garden as mulch

That reminds me - I was going to ask the cafe on campus! (Maybe not right now, though, as it's snowing again!). Our soil is clayey and reasonably alkaline, so I reckon a modest dose of coffee grounds on the onion bed only (and thus rotating it round) is the way to go. Isn't it Zazen who swears by coffee grounds on onions/carrots?

Don't coffee grounds work as a slug repellant too?

Yup - I absolutely do swear by it...esp on clayey soil.

            Brilliant stuff.
