    Storing Cucumbers

    HI !.
    This is my first time on the Vine, so Hello to start with.
    This year is not the first season that i have grown cues but is the first time i may need to store a few. All advice will be very welcome, actually storage advive in general.

    Try pickling them. Slice cucumber thinly - the thiner the better - layer in a colander with a handful or two if salt and drain for a couple of hours. N.B. do not leave for too long or the pickle is inedible!

    Once drained and 'floppy' (a lovely technical term!) rinse, dry and layer in a jar with thinly sliced onions and a few dill tips. Top with hot, spiced vinegar that has dill seed added. Put on the lids, cool and store in the fridge or a cool larder. Store for a couple of weeks before first use, it should keep for about 4-6 months before the flavour and colour deteriorates.
    The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

      I would agree with TPeers, the only way to store cucumbers is pickles.

        Have never tried to store conventional cukes and use any gluts of apple cuces in stir fries as they work well cooked also.

        Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

        Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

          Hello Mrs Potato Head and welcome to the Vine. The only way I know to store cucumbers is in the fridge for a short time, or pickle them.

          From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
