  • Sand for compost?

Silly question really, but what sort of sand do I add to help drainage? Do I just go down the builders merchants and ask for a bag of sand?

Sharp sand is best for drainage SBP.

If you only want a bit all builders merchants and the big Diy sheds have 20kg bags

Thanks chaps. I think 20kg would do!

Would sharp sand be okay to brush into the gaps between paving slabs too?

Mix sand, doesn't matter which type, with dry cement and spread it on the slabs. Brush it in to the gaps with a besom or broom and jobs a guddun.
The sand cement mix will absorb water from below and set like cement! No more weeding between flags!

Is it really that easy Snadger? What ratio sand to cement?

I think you mix it one to one SBP - one shovel sand one shovel cement.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

You must have a window box for a plot. I put in 10 one ton bags last year on one of my plots and it had no effect at all. except I was poorer.

sorry did I get it wrong are you putting sand in your compost?

We are on London clay.....the same clay they make bricks out of.....and there is a brick works just up the road.

My neighbour delivers sand and if he is over weight he drops the excess on my drive....last year I dropped tons of it on my plot and rotovated in to no effect.
