  • Paraffin!

I've been paying a fortune for paraffin i.e. £4.99 for 4 Litres at all Homebase and local Garden Centres!!! Not any more!

I now get my paraffin at my local allotment association shop for £5.20 for 10 Litres or £10 for 20 Litres.

This is a big saving and means I can now afford to frostproof my greenhouse!

That's cheaper than me Snadger. Pump at the garage here charges me £2.20 for 4.5 litres.

My maths aint what it used to be Jennie but I think on the smaller amounts yours is probably cheaper! No where round here that sells it from the pump though, so I have to make sure I catch the lottie shop when its open!

I am hoping to get my greenhouse built soon and was wondering if it would be okay to put a small halogen heater in there to keep it warm? Don't fancy trying paraffin as OH hates the smell of that. He thinks the halogen will give out the same heat if it is on low but I am not convinced.

I had to go for either paraffin or gas Shirley, but have found the parffin not to be too smelly. The worst is filling the heater, as I could do with a smaller funnel, but once its burning it doesn't seem to smell.

The thing is I already have electricity to the garden so taking a run to the greenhouse won't be an issue. I also have a halogen heater which isn't used much at the moment and it runs at 350/700 watts. Just thought I could maybe save the expense of getting a paraffin heater and then the paraffin for it.

Unless you can control the temperature you may be heating it up too high Shir as it will just stay on until you turn it off.

Either run it via a plug in stat or buy a cheapie fan heater from Tecos or the like for under a tenner which has one built in.

Thanks for that. Will reconsider the heating options. think we are talking next year before it is an issue anyway!
