Default Help!

Hi,

Do not know if this is the correct place to put this thread but I need help. I am trying to find plants named "Ellie". My friend has just had a beautiful baby girl named Ellie, so I need to find a plant. A beautiful plant that non-gardeners cannot kill!!! I can find a Astilbe called Ellie but I don't really want to give a fern, thinking more along the lines of a rose, azalea - nice looking plant lots of pretty flowers.

Will also be on during the week cause another friend is due tomorrow. Any ideas? Googled like made all day but not finding anything "nice and pretty"

I have grown astilbe, they aren't ferns. They have fab flowers but are possibly better suited to a garden as part of the planting rather than as a plant on it's own (although a few in a large pot might look good). They are perennial too so will keep going.
Assuming that Ellie isn't her true name, there is an alstromeria called 'little eleanor'. A rose called eleanor and a couple of azaleas too.

Hi Tootles,

I always thought Astilbes were ferns - you learn something new every day. Yes, Ellie is her name - shortened form of Ellen. I saw the picture of the Astilbe "Ellie" and it does look beautiful. The plants are for Ellie's parents and great-grandparents. Ellie's great-grandparents have a beautiful garden, but Ellie's parents are a different matter - plant needs to be kill proof. Any more ideas/suggestions greatfully received.

Hi again,

Thanks for the suggestions - the rose is lovely. Afraid surname is not Wilmott but great idea. Ellie does not seem to be a common name for plants. You both have given me good ideas, just might need to hide the name tag of the plants.
