  • Grow Your Own Needs Your Tips!

Grow Your Own is putting together a top ten of winter lettuces.

We'd love to know what your favourite variety is to grow and why.

Tips may be published in our September issue so keep an eye on the mag, as you may end up in print!

I always grow Rusty (it self-seeds now). It is superb: stands outside all winter, then gets away in the spring. Superb dark red colour, crispy leaves. It is just starting to bolt now, in June. Lovely

I've always grown Winter Density - it's a good doer for me. However, this year, on joining the Heritage Seed Library, I received a packet of Stoke lettuce. This is like a small cos and very hardy. I've still got a few growing outside. I will certainly sow this again.

Marvel of 4 Seasons and Arctic King for me.
Looking forward to the latter as it is Green - but the "Marvel" is a Red lettuce, which I wouldn't be keen on, but can't be any worse than those Spanish Lettuce we get a Christmas time.
        The above come together from:-

Celery, Spinach, Chard, Lettuce & Parsley seeds
