  • Egg SHells

Picked this up from another site (nothing to do with growing things!!!) thought it was worth sharing & do others think it's worth doing???

"plant seeds or seedlings in eggshells, then when you are ready to plant them out, crack shells lightly with a spoon and plant the whole lot. no fuss, roots will grow through the eggshells, and they have ready made bonemeal to give them a good start"

Don't know whare you are from but if you don't crush your egg shells as soon as you eat the egg.

Witches take the shells and use them to sink ships

Egg shells are useful! Crushed they make a good barrier against slug attacks on your seedlings, just make an unbroken ring around the seedling and the sharp edges of the shell is off-putting to the slugs!

And of course they can be used for sinking ships too..............

Used to grow mustard and cress on cottonwool in eggshells for the kids. Used to paint smiley faces on the shells - bring back memories

I think it could be good for Alpines , Hans Mum. They like the soil alkaline and the egg shells could help.
Hello Nog, my husband is from East Lothian, and they go with the egg shell and witches story.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Found this site...maybe you could add you idea to it Hans Mum?

            Interesting idea!
Apparently ground eggshells can be added to ground coffee to make it less acidic.

Look if a witch is skillfull enought to nivagate the channel and sink a ship whilst piloting a free range Size 1. I don't think a cutting of mint is going to put them off.

I for one don't want to risk it.

I'm OK as I always crush mine to put in the wormery - didn't realise what a risky buisness it was to have a chucky egg!!!!!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
